Objectives

RareSteeds is a non-profit cooperative supporting the conservation and preservation of rare and unique breeds of equines by enabling better communication between interested parties by:

• Providing a cyberspace presence for breeders & boosters of rare & unique breeds of equines.
• Providing links to existing web sites for breeders & boosters of rare & unique breeds of equines.

Guiding principles for this site

• Help sell ponies / horses of the rare and unique breeds (especially for particular endeavors)
• Help provide good matches between rare & unique equines and their human companions
• Education - help folks understand more about rare & unique equine breeds and their appropriate uses. This is both for the sake of education in it's own right and also to help the previous 2 objectives.

Policy

Operating as a for-profit or non-profit endeavor

RareSteeds operates more like a non-profit organization, rather than a for-profit commercial endeavor. We chose the .com designation since members of the RareSteeds cooperative would be for-profit commercial endeavors conducting marketing activities on the site.

Offering low-cost, simple web exposure for breeders & boosters

RareSteeds offers hosting of a small set of simple web pages for breeders & boosters of rare & unique equine breeds who otherwise would not have exposure via the world wide web.

Costs for web page hosting are kept to a minimum and are shared by those using the service. Overall costs for the group of members at this time are:

• $35 / year fee for domain name
• $68 / month fee for ISP & web hosting
• $100 / year for capital development (e.g., web publishing software upgrades)

This cost will be divided evenly among all members of the RareSteeds cooperative.  The currently monthly member cost is $8/month.

RareSteeds will offer to develop simple web pages for hosted breeders & boosters from information provided by the hosted breeder/booster in the form of a short questionnaire and simple promotional literature. At this time there is no charge for this service. If the demand gets to great a fee may be requested.

Membership criteria

Membership in the RareSteeds coop is generally open, with the exception of a few fundamental membership criteria:

• Members must treat other members, breeders, boosters and the general public with respect.
• Members must treat their animals with respect.

If there are any questions of a members conduct in this regard, the RareSteeds board of directors will be the final arbiters.
